the best day ever!

one of the best days that i can remember was my birthday when i was 7 or 8 years old. today, waking up early in the day is a chore, however back then it wasnt such a great feat. i would eagerly crowd around the kitchen table with my parents and sister in tow. we would stand together at 7:00 in the morning and i would open my presents.my birthday is in january and one thing that i can clearly remember about days such as those is that it was always dark. it was like we were axake and celebrating before the sun even rose. i remember being extremely excited opening up my G2O sled racer. it came complete with a seat, brakes and a handle to steer. on the other end of the spectrum, i also received a dress up kit which i was equally excited about. imagine a tomboy eager to sled down snowing hills that also enjoyed playing dress-up with her friends. after our familial festivities, my dad would drop me off at my babysittiers house. she was a short, older scottish lady that had a thick accent and was a stiffler for manners. every year on my birthday she would present me with an amazing homemade cake. even my school would get involved. the secretary happened to have the same birthday as myself so every year she would call me down and wish me a special happy birthday since it was a day that we both shared. i would also be presented with a birthday card compliments of the home&school. it was a much simpler time, where little pleasures guaranteed happiness. that was a truly wonderful day!
