1979
the kid that i followed was the guy in the green shirt. i think that he's about 17 and comes from a middle to upper class family. in the video he's just hanging out with some friends and they're doing stupid things. i think they're all just bored. this guy in particular seems kind of introverted. in the car he looks out the window as though he's deep in thought. when he is on the mountain with his friends he flips off the town below. i think he is acting here, trying to fit in and hide his shyness. he seems easily manipulated by the other kids. at the convenience store he was the wing man while his friends were destroying the store. he waited outside and deterred other potential shoppers from entering the store. he also seemed like he was a runner before he began talking to this group of kids. when the girls were driving away in the car he was the closest to catching up to the car because he was able to run the fastest and maintain the speed the longest. i think now he is a C student, and was formerly a B+ to A- student. after meeting this group of kids he sort of fell of the wagon. he now does stupid things and tries less at life. his parents are probably not even aware how far he has fallen. he is just a kid that was bored and has to much free time that fell into a bad crowd.
look at that!
i looked at the homepages for three popular toronto newspapers; toronto star, toronto sun and the gloge and mail. the paper that drew me immediately was the toronto star. although the headline was not earth-shattering, something about a big frreze, the picture was captivating. the was a shed with a big tiger painted across the front and a girl in a bright red rain coat and rubber boots walking infront of it. when i compared this picture to those accompanying the headline of the other two newspapers, there was no comparison. it is sad to say but the first thing that draws me to an article is the picture attached to it. i think that in our society today, people are more scatterbrained and are instantly draw to bright colours rather than appealing titles. the paper i liked second best was from the globe and mail. it was a more serious topic than the one from the star but again it was accompanied by an intriguing picture. it was of an intense fire and the headline involved an explosion in sweden ruining its placid reputation. for this article i did like the headline as well as the topic. i am interested in the world and this headline certainly piqued my curiousity. the success of a newspaper can be determined by how appealing and informative their front page stories are. first of there needs to be an appealing cover story with a colourful picture. next there needs to be interesting articles begininng on the first page and carried through to another page. i am realistically not going to flip through the whole paper to find an article that i want to read, i need to be captivated from the first page otherwise i will probably not take the time to try.

in a crowd...
i feel that i don't really stand out in a crowd... i don't dress outlandishly or act in a way that would draw a person's attention. i think it is the hardest to describe how people see you. i would say that i am quiet and non-descipt. in a subway i would be a neutral traveller, not one to cause a ruckus. i tend to either dress well or dress comfy. i like to wear jeans and a nice shirt if i am going anywhere, usually paired with boots and a cardigan. if i want to relax i dress more comfortably. although my mother may consider it sloppy, i like to wear roots track pants and a warm sweater if i am cold or just want to be comfortable. my favourite color to wear in clothing is blue. i have heard that blue is the most neutral clothing colour. although some may wear black to avoid being noticed, people in black are often thought of as sinister and can be looked at suspiciously by other travellers. blue, on the other hand, often goes unnoticed. some of the most popular clothing stores for teens in my generation is abercrombie and hollister. the majority of the clothing sold at these stores is blue. these brands, that teens deem fashionable is breeding an army of bland robots. they are brainwashing young minds to wear the colours and styles that they like and creating a mass of neutral people. because of this, anyone that has the courage to express themselves through their own personal styles are further ostrasized because the differences are so clearly obvious. anyway, back to myself...(god that sounds soo self-involved!) what truly makes me noticable in a crowd is my loud voice. when others are quiet, i like to be loud to stir things up... thats how i see myself... i hope it's accurate! :)
